An alarming amount of money is spent on healthcare services. Every year the sum tops RM8 billion in the country.
All is always going, a major explanation for these costs. It is important for lights and HVAC to be on all day every day. A top priority is patient protection and treatment.
There are four ways to reduce those high costs quickly and enhance the service for patients and staff.
1. Switch to LED lighting
You've heard this before, possibly. Switching to LEDs would provide you with the most energy savings. A significant proportion of total energy costs are compensated for by lighting, 16 percent to be precise.
But, we know there can be a lot of roadblocks (your boss, your budget, etc.) before you can update.
So at different price points, we list three choices. They will all save you resources.
- Retrofit light fixtures and bulbs of light. This will give you the highest savings in electricity, but will also cost you the most up front
- Just retrofit lights. In your hospital or healthcare centre, you probably have a lot of linear fluorescent tubes. With LED lighting, there are a number of ways you can retrofit these fixtures. Here we're addressing them.
- Retrofit places where there are still lights on. Think of the lobby or waiting area, the halls, the stairwells, the parking lot or the garage. In a lot of these places, protection is a concern, so they are likely to have a high burn period. Retrofitting would also save you cash in only certain places.

2. Install lighting controls
If you've already converted to LEDs or are seeking to boost your retrofit, you'll get an extra amount of savings from lighting controls.
Controls for lighting do not have to be complex or lavish. While you already have a lot of places where lights need to be on 24 hours a day, there are other rooms where energy could be saved by a simple occupancy sensor. Think of offices, conference spaces, or other rooms for tests. Dimmers are a good option for patient rooms, especially if patients are staying overnight. This helps them to have more control over the lighting levels in their offices, which can increase patient satisfaction.
3. Multiple Systems Update
You should update more than lighting, to save on energy bills. Improving other large systems, including HVAC, will also lead to savings.
As air quality and ventilation are highly critical, more than 30 percent of the energy usage of a hospital can be accounted for by HVAC energy use
The U.S. Department of Energy reports that by updating existing components of your HVAC system, energy efficiency and air quality can also be enhanced. As with lighting, the greatest energy savings will come from the installation of an entirely new system.
4. Create a sustainable environment
The steps above could enable you to earn LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, a popular green building option for new and updated buildings today.
Other environmental programmes can also help to achieve LEED certification, such as taking additional steps to conserve water. Small measures, including fixing leaky pipes and bad faucets, can lead to bigger changes.
No matter what environmental steps you take at home, you usually develop a healthier environment.
